Statement of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Helsinki on the second anniversary of the assassination of Martyr Major General Ghasem Soleimani
Today, Iran remembers and honors his brave soldier Martyr Major General Ghasem Soleimani who was assassinated two years ago by a targeted US terrorist attack near Baghdad international airport, which also killed more other people.
As highlighted in the United Nations Human Rights Council’s report, the targeting of General Soleimani, and the killing of those accompanying him, constitute an arbitrary killing for which, under international law and international human rights law, the US is responsible.
The attack to assassinate Martyr Soleimani was a “terrorist act”, the legitimacy and legality of which cannot be justified on any ground or basis. The Islamic Republic of Iran has adopted several measures based on the legal principle of "combating the impunity of criminals" to hold such individuals and entities accountable before the courts and will continue on this path until the final result is achieved.
We salute our hero Major General Soleimani and never forget his sacrifices in fighting so bravely against terrorism especially state terrorism.
